01. The Duality of Obsession
The narrative of The Freak Circus is driven by two contrasting forms of obsessive love (Yandere archetypes).
Pierrot represents the "Protective/Confinement" type. His horror stems from his desire to keep the protagonist safe by removing their freedom. He views the outside world as a threat and the circus cage as a sanctuary.
In contrast, Harlequin embodies the "Sadodere/Competitive" type. His obsession is fueled by chaos, adrenaline, and rivalry. He doesn't want to protect the player; he wants to "win" them. Survival on his route requires proving you are not a victim, but an equal partner in madness.
