How the "Dealer Intelligence" Works

Unlike human players who might gamble on a "gut feeling," the Dealer follows a strict algorithmic hierarchy known as the Shell Ratio System. Our calculator above mimics this logic exactly.

  • Aggressive State: If there are more Live Rounds than Blanks, the Dealer will always shoot you.
  • Defensive State: If there are more Blank Rounds than Live, the Dealer will shoot himself to safely eject a shell.
  • Uncertain State: If the counts are equal, the AI performs a true 50/50 coin flip.

Note: In "Double or Nothing" mode, the Dealer can enter a "Deduction Phase" if he uses a Burner Phone to confirm the last remaining unknown variable.

Key Metrics Explained

Probability (P)

The raw mathematical chance of the next shell being live. Use this to decide when to use a Magnifying Glass or Inverter. Generally, if Live % > 60%, prioritize self-defense items (Handcuffs).

Dealer Intent

This indicator predicts what the Dealer will do if it were his turn right now. Use this to decide if you need to skip his turn using Handcuffs.

What is Buckshot Roulette?

Buckshot Roulette is a tabletop horror game developed by Mike Klubnika that has evolved from a viral Itch.io sensation into a Steam cult classic. It reimagines the lethal stakes of Russian Roulette by replacing the revolver with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun.

Set in a gritty, industrial underground nightclub with a distinct 90s retro aesthetic, the game is often compared to Inscryption for its dark, atmospheric tension. However, it distinguishes itself through its unique "item-building" mechanics. It's not just about luck; it's about managing probabilities using tools like Handcuffs and Magnifying Glasses to manipulate the outcome.

Rules & Mechanics Breakdown

The game is played over three escalating rounds against The Dealer. The core mechanic revolves around a "Loadout" hidden inside the shotgun, consisting of a random sequence of Live Rounds (Red) and Blank Rounds (Grey).

🔴 Live Rounds

Deal 1 damage. Using a Handsaw doubles this to 2 damage.

⚪ Blank Rounds

Deal no damage. Strategy: If you shoot yourself with a Blank, you skip the Dealer's turn and go again.

Round Breakdown:

  • Round 1: Basic tutorial. No items, just raw probability.
  • Round 2: Introduction of items. Two items are given per loadout.
  • Round 3: "Sudden Death" mechanics. The defibrillator wires are cut, meaning if your health drops to zero, you die permanently and restart.

Double or Nothing (Endless Mode)

Exclusive to the Steam version, the Double or Nothing mode is the true test of skill. Players unlock this by consuming the pills found in the bathroom after beating the base game.

In this mode, shell counts and item distributions are randomized, making the game infinitely replayable. The goal is to accumulate cash. Winning a round offers you a choice: take the money, or double it for another round.

  • Scoring: Earnings double exponentially ($70k -> $140k -> $280k).
  • The Trap: If you lose at any point, you lose everything. This ties into the "Chasing Losses" achievement.
  • High Score: The theoretical maximum score is capped by the 64-bit integer limit, but the legendary achievement is reaching 1,000,000.

Survival Strategy & Meta

Beating the Dealer requires more than luck; it requires Probability Management and Item Economy.

When to be Aggressive?

When the probability of a Live round is >50%, and you have a Handsaw, it is statistically optimal to attack. However, never use a Handsaw without confirming the shell with a Magnifying Glass first unless you are desperate.

Countering the Dealer's AI

The Dealer follows a specific logic hierarchy. For example, he will always use Cigarettes first if he is damaged. Understanding this allows you to predict his turns.

Pro Tip: Use Handcuffs to skip the Dealer's turn when the shotgun is loaded with high-damage potential, effectively "stealing" the lethal shots for yourself.

The Truth Behind The Nightclub

Why is the name "GOD" signed in blood on the waiver? Who is the Dealer, and why does he have no eyes?

Theories suggest the nightclub is a purgatory, and the Dealer is a ferryman collecting souls—or "Obolus" coins. The game is not just a gamble for money; it's a gamble for your existence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Dealer cheat or know the shells? +

In the base game, no. The Dealer AI operates on the same limited information as the player. However, there are exceptions: 1. If only one shell remains, he knows what it is. 2. In "Double or Nothing", he uses deduction logic.

How does the Burner Phone item work exactly? +

The Burner Phone reveals the type of a random shell that is not currently in the chamber. It gives you future knowledge (e.g., "The third shell is blank"), allowing you to plan ahead or use an Inverter effectively.

What is the best strategy for the Inverter? +

The Dealer AI only uses the Inverter when he knows the current shell is blank (turning it live to shoot you). You should use it similarly: combine it with a Magnifying Glass. If you see a Blank, Invert it and shoot the Dealer for guaranteed damage.
